Trusting God- Steps to Take & Benefits to Reap

Putting one’s trust in God is not a passive attitude at all; it’s an action word– it’s something one chooses to do.
Knowing who God is, it’s only wise to put our trust in Him. It’s what believers do. It’s learning what our part is and what God’s part is.

When we put our trust in God, we reap the benefits for doing so.

The first benefit is that you’re PLEASING God, the second is PEACE from God, and the third is PROVISION from God– which is whatever you need from God in the situation your facing or are engaged in. The fourth benefit is PRAISE to God– it’s giving glory to Him for how He met your need, and this becomes yet another testimony to Him and His glory through Jesus.

Power Truth:
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes…” (Proverbs 3: 5-7)

That word TRUST is a really wise and important thing for us believers.
There are several components involved when it comes to trusting God. It involves a pattern for us to walk in- a way to apply this “trust in God” to any given situation you may be facing. And if you do, God’s PEACE will certainly come to YOU:

T– Turn to Jesus
R– Relinquish control
U– Understand His will
S– Stand on His promises
T– Thank Him for His help

Thinking it through:
* Turn to Jesus with the situation. His invitation is still the same: Come to Me.

* Relinquish (give up) trying to control a situation, or trying fix something or someone in your own strength. Relinquish (cease from) being afraid, worried, anxious about something.

* Understand God’s will. Its important to seek what God says about what you’re dealing with by praying- talking with Him and listening to Him (journaling), and by relational reading in the Word. Obtaining what we need to understand may take awhile, but it’s vital to begin by asking and seeking.

* Stand on His promises. Trust in God is trusting in His word. We stand on His promises by believing and declaring by faith what God WILL DO:

– My God will supply all my needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (“my needs” here include wisdom, a change of heart, financial, direction, etc.) Philippians 4: 19
– God will perfect that which concerns me. Psalm 138: 8
– The Lord will instruct and teach me in the way I should go. Psalm 32: 8
– God is with me. He will help me. I will not fear. Hebrews 13: 5-6
– The Holy Spirit will help me, lead me, empower me. Romans 8; John 14-16

Now that you’ve Turned to God, have relinquished relying on yourself or others, have sought to understand His will and have chosen to stand on His promises, you are ready to give Him thanks.

* Thank God. If we really believe God to do what He said He would do, then we should thank Him before He does it. So, we thank God for listening to us and for caring. And we thank Him that He will provide, He will lead, He will help, and He will work everything out for good.
And obviously it’s very important to do what He says to, and how He says to do it while we are trusting Him to do His part.

Psalm 37: 3-7 is a great summary here:
Trust in the LORD, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.
Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the LORD, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.
He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.
Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him…”

It is here where you will receive His perfect PEACE as a great benefit for trusting Him.
This word in Isaiah 26: 3 declares this benefit- what God will do for those who take these steps in order to put their trust in Him: “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.”

The benefits for trusting God are certainly worth the time it takes to do so. Here they are again, the 4P’s:
You’re Pleasing God.
You’ll receive Peace and Provision from God.
And you will get to Praise God, giving Him glory for His majesty- how He came through for you.
